Fur and Shearling Coats

Fur and Shearling Coats

Just because it is wintertime doesn’t mean you have to forget about fashion. What is, in fact, fun during this time is that you get to wear trendy coats. We are not talking about those down jackets that are more functional than stylish. Woolen coats are also quite chic, but if you want to look luxurious, there is no other choice than a fur or shearling coat.

A fur coat is more than just a fashion piece, it is also one of the warmest materials out there. But because of its luxury and price, it is quite an investment. With great care, though, it can last you years. In fact, some pieces are even handed down from generation to generation. This is true especially when you choose one with great quality.

Because of some ethical issues, some choose to buy a faux fur jacket instead. It is more animal-friendly, but it has the look and feel of real fur. An untrained eye will also find it tough to distinguish between the real and the imitation one. Another advantage is that they are also much easier to care for.

If you are eager to invest in a real fur coat, you have the choice between rabbit, mink or even a vintage one. Of the three, rabbit is the most affordable and the lightest, without compromising on the soft feel and warmth it brings. This kind of fur is also easy to dye, which is what makes it also popular nowadays.

On the other hand, mink is the most popular version. It has a very luxurious feel and is still light. It also comes in both formal and casual styles. It is, however, quite pricey and you expect to pay at least $1,000 for one. But invest in a high-quality one and it will last decades.

The last option is to buy those vintage versions made from the 20s or 30s. They are cheaper and socially responsible as well. They may not be as soft and silky, but it has that old Hollywood glamor feel to it. Just make sure that it is in good condition, as improper care and storage would damage it. Whichever type of fur jacket you buy, it looks great with jeans for a casual look, but will pair well too with a gown for glamorous events like cocktail parties.

On the other hand, a shearling coat is made of lamb with wool left on the hide. Equally warm, they are also used with other materials like leather for jackets or vests. And just like fur, it can go from casual to chic. Both will surely keep you warm but at the same time, make you stand in any crowd!
